La Strada is the drug help centre of the AHF and offers drug users in Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel basic care and practical survival assistance. The services offered range from counselling with help to get out of drugs to a separate room for the safer consumption of drug, and follows the concept of an attentive, low-threshold drug support work with the following goals:

  • Offer a place of rest and protection
  • Promote health
  • Initiate and support requests for change
  • Advocating for better political conditions

La Strada is mainly visited by homeless drug users who mainly use heroin, cocaine and crack. Especially the use of crack has increased significantly in recent years. The average age of the clients is about 35 years. What is striking is the strong physical deterioration of the clients up to acute states of exhaustion.

The number of psychological problems, sometimes associated with violence and aggression, has increased significantly. Many are infected with hepatitis (B and C) and HIV. The proportion of clients without a German passport is above average.
